Are you noticing that as the weather gets warmer, the bugs get more daring? I sure am. Here at the Village at Rice Hope we have been getting some beautiful, but very warm weather. Warm weather definitely gives bugs the urge to wander inside of your beautiful apartment home. Not only does the weather give them a push, but with all of our new landscaping happening there might be a few extras.

If you are noticing small gnat-like bugs in your apartment home, they are fruit flies. They feed off the excess waste left on your garbage disposal and other drains. Even if you kill one it seems like more come. This is because they lay their eggs in the extra water left behind in your drain. Dennis from Ehrlich Pest Control gave me some great directions to get rid of the pests.

1. First put a handful of ice into your garbage disposal and turn it on. This breaks up the excess food and waste left on the disposal blades.
2. Pour 1 cup of bleach into each of your drains to kill the eggs and waste.
3. Do step 3 twice a day for five days and soon you will be like me...PEST FREE!
